We are thrilled to see Father and Daughter, Martin and Eliza Carthy return to the Pavilion after a four year gap.
Eliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most engaging performers of her generation.
Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable accolades over a career that has seen her performing and recording with a diverse array of artists including, Paul Weller, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Nick Cave and Joan Baez.
For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures.
As well as all those years of train journeys and solo performances there have been trailblazing musical partnerships with, amongst others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick, The Imagined Village, and his award-winning family, Waterson Carthy.

Double Ivor Novello Award-winning lyricist Chris Difford, has with his partner, collaborator, friend and Squeeze co-founder Glenn Tilbrook, written some of the most enduring and best-loved songs of our time, Up The Junction, Cool For Cats and Labelled With Love to name but a few.
Glenn takes a back seat here and Chris is joined by acclaimed Ivor Novello Award nominated and musician’s musician Boo Hewerdine, who is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest singer songwriters.
His songs have been covered by over fifty artists including Eddi Reader, Kd Lang and Natalie Imbruglia.

The original Lindisfarne band finally called it a day in 2003, but are now back with a classic six-piece line up of long-time members fronted by original founder-member Rod Clements and Alan Hull’s son-in-law Dave Hull-Denholm.
With a repertoire of much-loved songs like Meet Me On The Corner, Fog On The Tyne, Lady Eleanor and Run For Home and a reputation for live performance second to none, Lindifarne’s power to galvanise festival and concert audiences remains undimmed and is guaranteed to get you on your feet at St Mary in the Castle.

It is a special show for it features (and will be one of just seven 2018 concert appearances) by the Gigspanner Big Band …

Led by Steeleye Span’s long serving bowman, Peter Knight, the band also includes Roger Flack, percussionist Sacha Trochet and BBC Folk Awards winners, Phil Henry and Hannah Martin.

The band were applauded at a number of festivals this year, particularly Cropredy, after which they were described by a particular radio presenter as “one of the most exciting live bands you are likely to see this year (or any year, for that matter)”
