About the Event
String! is a brand new, specially-commissioned musical set in Hailsham and the surrounding area and probably the most ambitious project Hailsham Festival has undertaken in its 15 year history.
This Showcase Concert of songs from the show with a dozen solo singers and 10 piece band, promises to be one of the highlights of the 2021 Festival. The narrator will be the distinguished writer and broadcaster, Roger McGough. Described as ‘the patron saint of poetry’ by former poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, we are delighted and privileged that Roger has agreed to join us for this event.
The creative team includes Brighton-based writer and lyricist, Stephen Plaice, one of Britain’s leading librettists and writers for Music Theatre. The music is by Tony Biggin, a popular and successful composer who lives in Hailsham.
The musical was to have been staged in 2020 but because of Covid-19 the theatrical production has been postponed until 2022.
